In response to internal health and safety concerns at Yana Dee Inc, we closed our Downtown Traverse City storefront doors to the public on March 16, 2020.
The Michigan executive order No. 2020-21 mandated our previously voluntary closure beginning March 24. On April 9th, the suspension of "business as usual" in Michigan was extended to April 30th. It is too soon to tell how realistic this projected reopen date is. Michigan is not alone. All around the world, priorities and lifestyles are rapidly shifting in response to the spread of Covid-19.
Daily life in Michigan is now being categorically divided into “essential” and “non-essential.” As such, grocery stores, hardware stores, gas stations, auto mechanics and supply stores, liquor stores, banks, and hospitals remain open for business. Clothing stores, book stores, arts and craft stores, boutiques, specialty shops, schools, markets, and community gathering spaces are closed. We completely agree that in-person clothing shopping should be temporarily suspended. Our pre-mandated closure of our storefront clearly shows our business priorities align with personal and public health, above the bottom line of profit.
But the fact is, everyone knows that clothing is essential. Clothing is essential to our health, safety, and comfort. Our clothing is a barrier between our bodies and the outside world. Clothing insulates us from the cold, shields us from the sun, and can help us look good at the same time. Beyond physical function, clothing is a cultural necessity, and an important part of our humanity. With the colors and styles you choose to wear, your clothes tell the world something about who you are. Your story is interesting and important. Your clothing can be a beautiful part of your personal, social, and cultural identity.
It is with these thoughts that we have carefully curated the Yana Dee Essentials Collection. Our long standing focus on comfortable, functional clothing is more relevant right now than ever before. We are now shining our spotlight on every day Yana Dee designs, that have already stood the test of time.
